So God Decides Who Lives, Dies, and Loses Power in a Hurricane?

I grew up in a non-religious household. Faith or belief in a higher power was never discussed. I didn’t even know what a Christian was and had never set foot in a church or sat in a pew until my twenties.

So all of my spiritual beliefs are home-grown, and feelings such as empathy and compassion are cultivated through my experiences as a child gazing out at the world. While having the autonomy to interpret what I saw without anyone telling me what to see.

As an adult, my spiritual vision was further shaped when I got my first bachelor’s degree in history, which included the study of religion and how it influences the world.

Because of this, I spend a lot of time wrinkling my brow in confusion whenever I hear others talk about God.

I have questions, folks.

Today it’s about hurricanes.

Even though I live on the opposite coast and have no family or ties to Florida, I watched Hurricane Milton’s path with horror, my heart hurting for the devastation and loss of life the storm would most likely bring.
