ARE WE SURPRISED?

The Childless Millennials

The older generations are now more than ever becoming aware of a growing concern and why I’m not

(Youtube is playing random music. Now playing Dreams by Fleetwood Mac) We have all, by now, become aware by now of the growing concern of the Boomer generation worried that the younger generations are not reproducing in enough numbers in order to generate enough tax revenue to put towards social security.

(Song now playing American Pie by Don McLean WTF😂 ) Also, economic concerns such as lack of purchasing of commodities and accessories. Ooooo speaking of accessories, I’ll be doing a few articles on diamonds, but for now….

I’m sorry, but I’m in a mood. Oof. If Im listening to it, so will you. Bear with me. It’s called “Sing along with Sweetness” today. Whoo, lordt.

I’ll explain why I am not concerned but first. Let’s go over the reasons why they are opting out of having children.

No Fucking Money!

The polite term might be referred to as “Financial Constraints” or a “Negative Cash Flow Position” but let’s keep it one hundred. In other words, Fuck polite! We have millions with crushing student loan debt because we were sold on the idea of getting a well-paying job to pay off said loan and lo and behold, those high-paying jobs aren’t there.

Especially, if you have an ethnic-sounding name, that resume goes straight in the trash can. It doesn’t matter what your qualifications are and the jobs we are able to get only pay fifteen an hour, maybe eighteen if we’re lucky. also, there’s the rising cost of housing and healthcare and wages have not gone up to meet those costs.

Get A Job!

(Carry On My Wayward Son By Kansas is now playing…not sure how I feel about this one. I think Youtube is mocking me😑)

So we decided to get a job. Not just any job if we can help it and if we can’t get that dream job because the “dream job” was more like a “wet dream”, we gotta get a side hustle. And yes, Youtube. I’m gonna cry some more. Oh yes.

It’s the age of the endless side hustle. I’m beginning to hate that word. Let’s call it what it really is. It’s a second, third, fourth, and fifth job sometimes. We work long hours and all hours. How in hell are we to be expected to manage parenthood on top of all that?

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

(Come Together by The Beatles….okurrr…I can work with this. Kinda has a groovy psychedelic feel to it😎) So, with all this side hustling and paying off student debt which leaves no time for settling down, a few of us have decided we want to travel and see the world. We aren’t settling for merely watching it on Netflix or Hulu.

We want freedom and adventure. We don’t want to be chained to a desk in a cubicle glaring at a computer monitor for eight to ten hours a day. Miss me with that shit. We want independence. We watched our parents struggle to pay bills and keep food on the table. We aren’t interested in participating in a system that doesn’t give a damn about us.

If we aren’t valued we’ll make our own system. Fuck it! we gotta make the best of it, “Improvise, adapt to the environment, Darin, Shit happens, I Ching, whatever man, we gotta roll with it.”

The Planet Is on Fucking Fire!

Or whatever Bill Nye the Science Guy said. (September by Earth Wind and Fire….finally!☺️)

We are really worried about the future of this planet that’s currently burning so why should we allow ourselves to be pressured into bringing more people into the equation that will just compound the problem? It wouldn’t make any sense to bring people to a burning building now, would it? (Suspicious Minds by Elvis, oh hell fucking no! 😖skip…Everybody wants to rule the World by Tears For Fears. Oh, that’s ironic given the topic. C’mon now!🫤)

Te Ching Balance Act

We’ve watched the struggle of our parents and do not want a repeat. We don’t want or need the added stress. No leisure time or flexibility. We feel as if we are living in an Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged every man for himself dystopia. We don’t have the family dynamics or the support systems of our grandparents had. Child care is a nightmare unless you have thousands a month to send your child to daycare.

You used to be able to depend on extended family to watch the kids while the parents went to work. Both parents have to work now. That’s one of the many consequences of paying low wages and good luck trying to grow as a person or to be able to get to know your partner. (Piano Man by Billy Joel…Oh, why not? Keep the sad songs coming😢)

Stop Nagging Us

Would you? We would like to focus on us for a little while. We want to discover what makes us tick, what likes and dislikes we have. We don’t want to spend a lifetime repeating all the past mistakes. We want to be able to set goals for ourselves and achieve them. We don’t want to spend the rest of our lives staring wistfully out of the window thinking to ourselves, “Someday” or “I wish I had…”

Even after all of this, I’m not worried about the lack of population in the coming years. I believe that we will solve our immigration stupidity problem in my lifetime. Immigration has been the lifeblood of this country and will continue to be so when this generation is long gone.

Dear God, I think next time I’m gonna just play the Guardians of the Galaxy mixtape.
