The Cult of Musk: Obsession, Power, and the Manic Reign of a Tech Tyrant
America’s Wild Ride
I admit to wanting to purchase a Tesla at one point. My daughter has one, and honestly, it’s a nice car for an electric car. Now, however, I cringe whenever I have to be a passenger. I cringe, I worry — I’m convinced when we leave it in the parking lot of wherever we were going, it’s going to be torched. Maybe with us in it.
I wasn’t always this skeptical. There was a time when Tesla seemed like an innovative company that could change everything — a car that promised a cleaner, greener future. It felt like environmental progress. Elon Musk’s Cult of Personality and Power
Tesla’s image has become inextricably linked to its polarizing CEO, Elon Musk. For those of you who didn’t know, Musk did not start Tesla—it was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Like everything else, he bought his way, investing $6.5 million in Tesla during its Series A funding round, becoming the company’s largest investor and chairman of the board.
