The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Confection. My Food Review of Lady M’s Chocolate Ganache.
Lady M at Bryant Park 42nd street.
This is a brightly lit small area on the side of the road. Innocuous and inconspicuous looking it houses some of the best smells in New York City.
Quality
I sampled one slice of the Framboise Au Chocolat…and I was in heaven. The cake is made of dense chocolate mousse and is covered by a thin layer of raspberry compote with a hint of dark chocolate and it has a chocolate layer sponge. It's finished with ganache and raspberry gelee. I bit into a tiny portion of the cake. My mouth was filled with a sweet and delicate taste that was rich, encompassing, and flavorful.
The mousse was dense. They weren’t lying about that. It was rich and velvety with tones of dark chocolate in it. The cake was mostly mousse but it was paired well with the ganache at the bottom and sponge at the top. The sponge cake absorbs the stickiness of the mousse and enhances its taste. I love mousse cakes in general so this was sort of my dream come true.
What I didn’t like about it
The film of raspberry atop the sponge was a weird combination for me. I didn’t enjoy that. The softness of the chocolate did not blend with the gooeyness of the raspberry and left me thinking that the combination was pretentious. I would have loved to see just cocoa power atop the sponge cake if I am being absolutely honest.
At $9 a slice this confection punches above its weight. All in all, I loved this bite of delight and will be returning for more!
