Like many of you, I’m very concerned with the flames of intolerance that are sweeping over much of the United States. Some backward places have gone so far as to pass anti-drag laws.

Now, I’m not a lawyer, but it seems to me that it’s a blatant violation of the Constitution to have the government encroach upon freedom of expression by telling people what they can or cannot wear.

But the United States doesn’t make sense. We have politicians who will argue passionately that we must not infringe upon the people’s right to make the Nazi salute. However, those same people go silent when the government deprives you of the ability to choose the perfect pair of heels to go with your handbag.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I feel that way a lot.

It makes no sense. Obviously, there should be no restrictions whatsoever about what anyone chooses to wear in a free nation. But this fight is upon us whether we like it or not. Perhaps we should take advantage of a unique opportunity to use conservative talking points against the opponents of human dignity.
