Tuesday we witnessed an old-fashioned beating.

A hole was punched in the puff pastry of the Democratic Party. We saw its spirit depart like frantic steam and found ourselves awash in flacid dough. By midnight, millions of Americans were exclaiming that they were finally free while millions of others were asleep fighting off nightmares.

In this vacuum of American politics — a country without viable traditional parties, without the means to consistently distribute information, without a shared vocabulary — the party of Trump has won big. HUGE!

The Democratic Party presidential candidate finished the night losing by 4 million popular votes and floundering with 10 million fewer votes than in 2020. It’s easy to imagine that Joe Biden woke up in the wee hours, looked himself in the mirror and winked, “I told them it wouldn’t work!”

This collapse comes despite traditional Republicans like Dick Cheney and the popular Arnold Schwarzenneger lending Democrats a hand.

The consequences will be stark
