In some parts of the men’s rights movement and the manosphere, the term “red pill” is used as a metaphor for the specific moment when a person comes to believe that certain gender roles they are expected to conform to, such as marriage and monogamy, are intended for the benefit of women alone, rather than for mutual benefit.

The term “red pill” comes from the movie “The Matrix” starring Keanu Reeves. It symbolizes the idea of choosing a harsh truth over a comfortable illusion.

In this context, taking the red pill signifies rejecting what they view as mainstream narratives about gender equality and embracing a perspective that they believe reveals the supposed dominance of women and the victimization of men in society.

If they weren’t so serious, this might be laughable.

The Red Pill community on Reddit gained notoriety for its promotion of a controversial and often misogynistic ideology.

The community tends to harbor resentment towards feminism and advocates for what they believe are men’s rights in a society they argue is biased against them.
