As children, many of us were told not to talk to strangers; in many areas in the U.S., that may still be good advice for children and adults. Here in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, talking to strangers is encouraged and even expected. That being said, you do want to take some precautions. It’s probably not a good idea to talk to strangers on the street in the wee hours of the morning when you’ve had one too many adult beverages. But that could be said for nearly anywhere on the planet.

People Here are the Best

When people consider vacationing or living in Puerto Vallarta, some of the reasons they’ll give you include the nearly perfect weather during the winter months, the food and culture, and the lower cost of living compared to the U.S. But what I hear time and time again from expats is that the number one reason for calling Puerto Vallarta home is the people. The expats are naturally more relaxed and friendly since most are retired or working in a profession they genuinely enjoy.

However, it’s the Mexican people who capture people’s hearts. Many of them have very little, but they still seem to exude happiness. They will go out of their way to help you, and despite varying degrees of language barriers…
