Even if you are not an expert on American laws regarding gifts to public office holders, you might think that it sounds a little fishy for our president to accept a gift from a Middle Eastern nation of what has been described as a “palace in the sky.” You might be smelling a lot of fish if you also consider that the gift was announced just days after a deal was signed to build a Trump golf course in that country.
Yep, you are right. That is as fishy as a dinner at Long John Silver’s, which is the only fish we peasants can afford. I bet they serve better fish on that plane. Although once Trump takes the palace plane over, they’ll probably serve him McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish, but on a gold-encrusted plate, with his Diet Coke in a jewel-encrusted goblet.
The “Emoluments” clause of the Constitution does address this issue. Word of advice: Don’t even try to pronounce that word out loud.
