There are some things in this world I don’t understand and probably never will. I don’t understand why bad things happen to good people. I don’t understand why humans continue to degrade the environment that sustains them. I don’t understand why it is easier to gain weight than to lose weight.
I also don’t understand why any American veteran would consider voting for Donald Trump.
Trump’s history with the armed forces is a curious thing. Despite his constant blathering of military threats toward other countries and his frequent displays of acute testosterone poisoning here at home, he never actually served in the U.S. military. Granted, many presidents have not served in the military. Bill Clinton didn’t. Neither did Barack Obama or Joe Biden. George W. Bush did, sort of.
Donald Trump not only didn’t serve, but he actually went to great lengths to make sure he didn’t. Compounding this is a long list of things he’s said and done to offend service members, their families, and now even the hallowed ground that contains their remains. Let’s take a look.
Born in 1946, Trump was the perfect age to be drafted for the Vietnam War. With regard to Vietnam, men who came of age at this time had seven options:
