WOMEN’S RIGHTS/POLITICS
We Will Not Go Back
A poem
My husband asked me the other day
If I thought our girls
would be so woke.
I said yes.
They’re exactly as I’d hoped.
Caring, compassionate,
And longing to change
This world and all that is deranged.
To carry on the fights of past generations
Forging ahead with fewer frustrations.
They are Accepting, loving, idealistic, and honest.
But Instead of a world that’s filled with promise
We’re giving them one that is dishonest.
Full of heartache
And now fewer rights than me
With a government led by hypocrisy
Living in fear of losing democracy.
With so much on their plates
As young adulthood takes
They shouldn’t also have to feel so unsafe.
Amid so much chaos
I have to hope
That my daughters will somehow find ways to cope.
