What does America want to be?

I thought it was the home of the brave

And the land of the free.

But more and more I see

A land I do not want it to be.

Full of greed and bigotry and hate.

Surely this is not to be our fate.

Is inciting violence the right way to legislate?

What happened to welcoming the huddled masses yearning to breathe free?

Haven’t Lady Liberty’s promises been decreed?

We worked hard as a nation

To achieve equality and liberation.

But the privileged now fear

The dissolution of their tier.

Society must reconcile

The sins of its most vile.

And this means creating a world meant for all,

Not just those who are white, male, and want to build a wall.

When we villainize immigrants and the LGBTQ,

And strip women’s rights, too,

Create fear of educators
