Whose Fault Is It That Harris Lost?

There is plenty of blame to go around

In typical American fashion, the first thing people do when they lose is to find someone to blame. When our favorite sports team loses, we blame the referees, the coach, or the quarterback. When we don’t get accepted into the college we hoped to, we blame the biased admissions process or Affirmative Action. When we are passed over for a promotion, we blame a boss who “plays favorites” or our co-worker who brown-nosed their way to the top. We do it when our party loses the election too.

So who is to blame that not only did Kamala Harris lose in her bid to become president, the Democrats also lost control of the House and Senate, giving Donald Trump complete control of the federal government? Let’s take a look.

Joe Biden has to accept at least some of the blame for this fiasco. Whether he was or was not capable of serving another term, his debate performance convinced most Americans that he was not. Rather than being decisive about it, he waffled. By pulling out after the primaries, he put Harris in a tough spot. She had won no primaries at all and had very little time to campaign, which put her at a big disadvantage.
