Like many others on here, I first joined to see what the fuss was about and to explore the possibility of being paid. Money has never been my primary motivator — after all, I post daily on LinkedIn and Facebook, and I don’t get a penny for that — but it’s great to be appreciated and make some dinero for doing the things you love.

Don’t Let Money Be Your Reason for Writing

It hasn’t taken long for me to realize that — contrary to what many on Medium will tell you — the majority of people, including you, will be lucky to break into double figures each month unless they're prepared to jump in full-time and sell their grandparents. The grandparent bit was a joke — no offense intended, Jason Provencio.

Since I already make a decent living as a professional ghostwriter, copywriter, and editor, I’m not going to steal time from those activities to make a couple of hundred dollars on here — even if it would be nice to get paid as Martin Morrison rather than for writing in someone else’s name.

How Not to Make Money

For anyone who doubts my sincerity, I will say this much: the least likely way to make money is with haiku poetry. Writing haiku poems breaks almost every money-making rule you can think of.
