Why Perfectionism Can Be a Barrier To Achieving Success

There was a time in my life when I thought I could achieve perfection. However, that was an unattainable goal for me and for every human being on earth. But I wasn’t happy with my life or choices and thought there must be a way to be more perfect with my efforts.

However, I just became frustrated and disappointed in myself and my efforts. It took me a very long time to realize I was chasing something I couldn’t obtain. The lesson was achieving excellence instead.

I learned that perfectionism wastes time, causes stress, and gets in the way of achievement. Performing well does not imply striving for perfection. Ideally, any task that is finished might guarantee success. Doing your best and reaching for excellence offers more rewards.

Avoid Perfectionism and Achieve More:

1. Perfection is Not Possible. Nothing you strive for can ever be perfection. You might as well look for a unicorn or a way to fly without wings!

2. Perfectionism is a Waste of Time. Perfection necessitates a significant investment of time and effort, far exceeding the value of the finished result. If you strive for perfection, you need to allocate your resources properly.

3. You Accomplish Less. When you strive for perfection, you deprive yourself of adequate time to complete all tasks. Your boss needs her report and doesn’t need to submit it to the Smithsonian to be preserved for future generations. If you are obsessed with perfection, you cannot complete your tasks.

4. Perfectionism is a Sign of Insecurity. The desire for perfection stems from a sense of inadequacy. When you believe you aren’t good enough as you are, you may think that completing everything perfectly will demonstrate that you are capable and adequate. That’s a challenging and unattainable responsibility to bear throughout life.
