In 2024, the word “unintentional” has evolved into a multifaceted, contentious, and controversial term that carries significant weight in various contexts. There are varying degrees of “unintentional”—all having to do with intent, as its power is in its ability to shape perception and deny accountability across a multitude of situations.

In case you have decided to shun the news and lose brain cells reading solely on Medium instead, Israel’s assault on Gaza has claimed the lives of over 29,000 Palestinians since October 7, representing an “unintentional” tragic milestone in one of the most lethal and devastating military operations in recent memory.

Israeli authorities admitted to deploying a drone to launch missiles at a convoy operated by World Central Kitchen, a prominent humanitarian organization in Gaza. The attack resulted in the deaths of seven of the influential aid organization’s workers; among them were three British citizens, a dual national of the United States and Canada, a Palestinian staff member, and individuals from Australia and Poland.
