“Dad, do you think people treat me differently?”
“Um, what do you mean by treating you differently?”
Josh had a hard time getting his thoughts together to answer. I could see him trying to sort them out and put them into words.
“I was wondering if they treat me differently because of how I am.”
“Well, yes, I know some people treat you differently. I see it frequently. Some people go out of their way to be nice and kind to you, help you, and show interest in you.
They do it because they can see something different in how you walk, talk, or act. They can tell you have some extra challenges, so they try to be extra nice.”
“Josh, do you think people treat you differently?”
“I don’t know. Let’s tell them what happened so they understand.”
“Well, I don’t know that we can tell everyone. Not to mention, some people don’t care or want to know. Most people are busy with their lives and aren’t paying attention to yours or mine.
