It’s Not About the Frelling Bear

Well, here’s another fine rant…

--

Silly me

I engaged on an op-ed by a gentleman whose opinion is that the bear vs man analogy is blatant bigotry against all men and is — in his words — “toxic feminism.” Yeah, it’s that fucking rant yet again. Seriously gentlemen, why are you eternally upset over the analogy instead of being upset over what that analogy reveals.

I get it, dudes. The analogy holds up a societal mirror that makes you uncomfortable. Newsflash: Women in general feel unsafe. It’s uncomfortable to feel unsafe.

How about you being uncomfortable over how unsafe women in general feel, NOT because of you personally, but because of some other man?

“Anguish” by the author

My comment specifically stated it’s not all men. Predictably, random dudes came to my comment on someone else’s post to mansplain to me how women who feel less threatened by the bear, and me in particular, are bigots. Interestingly, over the course of three days, the original poster never engaged.

I commented specifically on his statement claiming the analogy “demonizes” all men.

Read for yourself

Me: It’s really not about demonizing all men. It’s knowing the bear isn’t really interested in you. You don’t bother it, it won’t bother you. Can you say the same about a man? Statistically, the answer is no.

Consider: Every woman knows a woman who’s been raped. Men never seem to know any rapists.

1st dude: You demonize men in general with this comment.

Me: How?

1st dude: The bear won’t bother you, but can you say the same about a man? Men never seem to know any rapists… you demonize men in general with almost every word in this comment.

Me:
Every.
Woman.
You.
Know.

Facts: Every woman knows women who’ve suffered gender discrimination. Every woman knows women who’ve been sexually harassed. Every woman knows a woman who’s suffered domestic abuse by a man. Every woman knows a woman who’s been raped…
