Not his exact words but implied from his very launch in 2012 in his welcome post, where he stated how 'it is different' (implying ot the industry), and in your own statement 'it's the only site where one can make a living as a writer' is one that many other writers I have read in their comments would agree with you which makes this platform a "gamechanger" of a kind.

I don't mean editors' rights of different pubs on here, but editors within the same pub to avoid undue edit and design controls over the entire pub if you bring on more than one editor onto your pub (basic system features that I recall were on Blogger that he didn't bring onto here).

The newsletter feature of the pub is a post in story form like any story on here sent by email to your pub subscribers which cannot be put behind a paywall. Linking from your newsletter story to paid stories is possible but renders newsletters pointless since subscribers get emails to your paid stories already. But the newsletter created by editors generally should not be discounted by a founder who created it in the first place on his own system but didn't give better features equal to writers who are editors wanting to earn from their newsletters. (I don't put myself exactly in this same category as his example he gives in his interview. I just think it was telling that Ev wasn't sympathetic to the challenges his own system creates for editors of newsletters).
