Digital Tips & Trends, September 2021

Greetings from The Birdbath! This monthly newsletter from Bower Blue takes a look at digital tips & trends impacting the visual arts & design communities. Any questions? Let us know!

Diving into what’s been on our and our clients’ minds lately…

#1. More From Behind the Curtain

Instagram has continued on its project to shed more light on how it works–this time turning to its discovery algorithm. This is the algorithm that determines what accounts and topics come up first when a user is doing a search 🔎. Surprising no one, it’s not as straightforward as one might think! Social Media Today has a solid summary, and here it is from the horse’s mouth.

#2. Hello, Fall!

It’s almost the fall season! Is your social media strategy ready? It sounds simple enough, but one of the biggest challenges of running social media is to be always ready to post. One of the first things we tell clients is to make a calendar. Hootstuite has a great primer, complete with tips and templates. Not ready yet? We can help.

#3. No One Goes There Anymore, It’s Too Crowded…

A big story this summer was Clubhouse moving out of beta and opening to the public. This followed a couple of months after releasing their Android app. This, of course, spawned nearly endless speculation regarding what this would mean for Clubhouse’s popularity versus cool factor–which was already seen to be on the wane before opening to the public.

Barbara London Calling podcast

One of our favorite pandemic projects was producing the podcast Barbara London Calling, with the legendary media curator and Friend of Bower Blue, Barbara London. We are excited to share that we are now hard at work on Season 2 of this critically-acclaimed podcast. New season! New guests! New topics! Coming this fall.

In the meantime, you can catch up on Season 1 of Barbara London Calling on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your favorite podcast player.

Bower Blue produces digital content & strategies for galleries, museums & cultural nonprofits. (Take a look at some of our clients.)

Follow us on Instagram & Twitter to see more of our video & podcast productions. And of course we’re always up for saying “Hello.”
