Greetings from The Birdbath! This newsletter from Bower Blue takes a look at digital tips & trends impacting the visual arts & design communities.

Having wrapped Season 2 of Barbara London Calling this spring, we thought we’d take a look at some recent ideas and developments in the podcasting world, as well the usual dip into social media. Any questions? Let us know.

#1. PODCAST OR YOUTUBE?

Like to talk? Should you start a podcast, or a YouTube chat series? Waave looks into it: Wondering whether to start a podcast or a YouTube channel in 2022? Both channels can get a lot of traction for your content. But, each requires a unique approach to creating and marketing content if you’re to successfully engage with your audience.

#2. THE ANSWER IS ‘YES’

The fact is that after Google, YouTube is the second most-used search engine in the world, so you are well-advised (at least, that’s what we advise) to have a presence on both, and whether you are video-first or putting together a podcast, it is pretty straightforward to have you content present on both platforms — just ask us. And if you really want to get wonky on it, Podtrac has a great white paper that digs into the data.

#3. HOW TO GET YOUR PODCAST FEATURED

Making great content is only half the battle — you still need to promote it. Want to try to get your podcast featured on Spotify? Anchor.fm (a self-podcasting platform owned by Spotify) put out a handy tip sheet.

#4. [CUE: PINK FLOYD’S ‘TIME’]

You have only moments to capture the attention of a prospective listeners — best to make your intro count. For Barbara London Calling we were incredibly fortunate that Barbara was able to secure permission from Kathleen Hanna to use a Le Tigre clip for her intro to Season 1, and from Lee Ranaldo for Season 2. Don’t know a lot of legendary rock stars? Waave has some tips for making unique and strong intros and outros.

#5. SOCIAL MEDIA, BRIEFLY

Watch this space as this incredible project rolls out over the coming months.

This year, the esteemed Art Dealers Association of America celebrates its 60th anniversary of advocacy, camaraderie, and mutual support! We are honored to be selected by them to create a series of videos to celebrate this legacy and — most importantly — its incredible members.
