Box Developer Relations has some exciting news to share — free developer accounts are BACK!

As previously mentioned on our developer forum, developer accounts were turned off for a period of time due to bad actors using social engineering attacks on other Box accounts. While they were off, our security and engineering teams did a full sweep on the features included with this account type.

Free developer accounts are a vital tool for developers to learn all about Box Platform. Most prominently, you can now test applications with JWT and CCG authentication methods vs only OAuth 2.0. You can sign up for a developer account here.

As part of the revamp, some features and functionality were removed from this account type to maintain security, so you may notice certain administration functionality missing. For example, free developer accounts no longer have access to the content manager section of the admin console. Also, most login in as user and email address configuration has been restricted. These changes will affect all free developer accounts, regardless of when they were created.

We are very excited free developer accounts are back on!

As always, if you have any feedback for the Box Developer Relations team, feel free to drop us a line on the developer forum.
