Box @ Hack Midwest
From July 21st to 22nd, Box will be a part of Kansas City’s largest app building competition at Hack Midwest. We’re all very excited to see what’ll be built over the hack, but also wanted to give everyone that’ll be there a leg up with some ideas of how to use Box Platform quickly and seamlessly in your app.
For the best use of Box APIs, we’ll be giving away a DJI Spark drone, so let’s chat about some of the things that you can do to bring home that sweet sweet drone!
Digital Marketplace
We all know that Box is a great unstructured data storage system, so let’s build on that. If you’re creating an app that uses some sort of digital marketplace to connect buyers and sellers, Box works perfectly as an intermediary. A seller interacts with your app and stores the items that they’d like to sell within the system (stored on Box). When a buyer now finds and buys the item, they can be collaborated in on the file / folder to have access to the content. If the content access needs to expire, simply remove the collaboration.
Services you’ll need:
- JWT / OAuth 2 based application for Box auth.
- Ability to upload files / folders and collaborate users on folders.
- Understanding and use of the service account to host those files.
Data Visualization, Upload, and Manipulation
No matter what type of app you’re building, very frequently you have a need to expose content to a user. In many instances you would need to pull down a file / folder list from your app and build a visualization tool from scratch. Using Box as the content store for your applications also allows you to use our visualization, upload, and editing UI services, called Box UI Elements. These will allow you to preview the contents of a file, pick and explore content in folders, as well as upload new content.
Services you’ll need:
- JWT / OAuth 2 based application for Box auth.
- Using the downscoping token functionality to tightly scope what the access token has access to.
- The Box UI Elements for visualization and upload.
That’s it for now folks, we’re looking forward to seeing all of you near the end of July at Hack Midwest!
