The Box Skills Kit will be Generally Available in December 2018
Businesses today are managing more information than ever before and it can be next to impossible to make sense of all that data. But artificial intelligence and machine learning present an opportunity to help businesses solve this at scale.
By applying algorithms like image labeling, speech-to-text transcription, natural language processing and more to make unstructured data more discoverable, structured and usable for employees and businesses alike.
That’s why last year at BoxWorks 2017, we introduced Box Skills. Box Skills is a framework for applying the AI/ML technologies from providers like Microsoft Azure, IBM Watson, Google Cloud and others to your content in Box to add structure and extract valuable insights from your business content. And, with the Box Skills Kit, developers can easily write skills that apply any applicable AI/ML algorithm to enhance content in Box while writing as little code as possible.
Today, we’re excited to announce that the Box Skills Kit will be generally available in December 2018.
The Box Skills Kit is a developer toolkit that allows you to create your own skills for Box. The kit includes APIs, documentation and sample code to help you write custom skills and integrate the AI/ML service of your choice to process content in Box. You can also visualize the output of your skill, such as a transcript extracted from an audio recording, using a series of modular, metadata-driven UI “cards” that allow you to display rich metadata to users directly in the Box web application. This metadata can drive other Box functionality, such as improving searching content in Box, triggering automations, or applying security policies to your content in Box.
Custom skills allow you to apply AI/ML services to your content to solve for your own business content and processes. You can create custom skills that leverage AI/ML services from any applicable provider or even apply your own customized algorithms that you’ve built.
For example, you could create custom skills that:
- Extract specific information from official identification documents, like drivers licenses and passports, as part of a client onboarding process
- Label objects in images and videos, like specific products or logos, to help marketers easily find digital assets for marketing campaigns
- Extract specific information from contracts, such as terms, dates, parties, governing law, etc., to help teams more easily manage contracts in Box
