Today, we are excited to announce continued momentum for our customers in Europe and a significant milestone for the global cloud initiative we first introduced in 2016.

Announcing Box Zones in the UK, the latest Zone where customers can choose to store their data in-region with Box. With Zones, Box can help companies in Europe address data residency concerns, so that they can benefit from the mobility and collaboration of the cloud.

We have partnered with IBM to develop the first IBM-supported Zone. Customers will be able to select the UK as their primary location, with backup in Germany. The UK becomes the third country in Europe, and the eighth country globally, where customers can choose to store their data. In addition to the US, customers can now choose to store their data in Germany, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and Canada.

With Binding Corporate Rules, Privacy Shield, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR), and other certifications, our global customers can have full confidence in data privacy as their content moves around the world. In addition, Zones works with Box KeySafe, which lets organizations manage their own encryption keys, and Box Governance, which allows organizations to apply document retention schedules, legal holds, and security classification policies to their files, so customers can be fully secure and compliant in the cloud as they manage sensitive data or intellectual property.

Box Zones in the UK on IBM will be available in the spring. And we’re not stopping at the UK. As we continue to grow our Zones network, customers around the world will have even more infrastructure choice.
