TeamViewer is a leading global software provider for IoT, digital networking, monitoring, support and collaboration. Founded in 2005 in Göppingen, southern Germany, the company employs around 700 people from more than 60 countries and has subsidiaries (e. g. Australia, USA) all over the world. TeamViewer’s flagship product gives remote access to users and has already been activated on more than 1.5 billion devices, of which at least 30 million are connected to TeamViewer at any time. However, the company covers the entire business cycle of an organization and changes the way it works, whether through screen sharing, remote support or web and video conferencing.

As a freemium supplier to the industry leader

Since its foundation, TeamViewer has been working with cloud-based technologies to connect people worldwide to virtual meetings and provide global support over the Internet. A key factor in the success story is the Freemium approach: The private use of the software is free of charge. For example, if you want to help less skilled acquaintances, friends or parents with IT problems from your own desk, you can use TeamViewer without paying anything. Business customers require a license for this. In this way, the company has worked its way into the top group of the competition. The free offer spreads virally and creates a large number of loyal users who, with their constructive feedback, initiate valuable improvements, new impulses and areas of development.

The administrative effort of the international team was too high

TeamViewer works not only to digitally network employees and companies, but is itself a modern and purely digital company. Employees can work remotely in the home office and many colleagues are spread around the world, working together on a daily basis. As a result, the administrative effort grew enormously and a cloud solution was sought that would allow employees to collaborate better and faster — without long loading times or delays due to necessary backups. This solution should make possible nothing less than the work of the future — as simple as possible, as effective as necessary.

Data protection as a top priority

“Data protection is extremely important for cloudbased work with TeamViewer. That’s why we have chosen our partner here very carefully — we can’t just store everything anywhere,” explains Guiseppe Sinone, IT Administrator Services at TeamViewer. “Box Zones was a decisive criterion for us compared to other products, as our data is stored locally.” For companies such as TeamViewer, this is truly a decisive advantage: thanks to the performance of the cloud, companies and their different departments are more closely connected. They work more closely together and are more globally positioned. Box Zones ensures that the technological infrastructure here is not in conflict with local laws and regulations, thereby helping to ensure that the digital conversion is secure and compliant with data protection regulations.

“With Box, we are now benefiting from administrative advantages that have made us much more efficient. The high security requirements for data transfer and release were particularly important to us. For us as a company, effective collaboration is essential and the use of Box is a great enrichment for TeamViewer as well as for the individual employee,” explains Guiseppe Sinone.

IT departments were able to optimize processes and save time

The concrete benefit is evident in the daily application, above all, of course, in the sharing of files and joint editing: TeamViewer customers upload something, the employees can access it directly — all in the same platform and in real time. For the customers and employees of TeamViewer, Box has simplified their work in this respect. Effectively, tickets and requests for permissions have decreased by 70% since the implementation of Box’ applications. This results in enormous cost savings. “The price we pay as business customers for using Box is much lower than the electricity and maintenance costs we save,”says Guiseppe Sinone, summing up the benefits for TeamViewer. Since then, resources that have become available have also been used to integrate own applications into the platform. For example, the Business Intelligence department is developing a tool that automates the upload of files at Box. This simplifies the revision of call statistics, a core process in TeamViewer. In this way, the effectiveness is to be further increased.

Additional quotes from Guiseppe Sinone, IT-Administrator Services at TeamViewer:

“Since we have been using TeamViewer Box applications, we have eliminated the long loading times that our marketing department has had to contend with when working with large graphics and videos.

“The integration with Office 365 also works very well with TeamViewer, because it is the most used tool and to connect with Box is really ideal for us.
