Askar Askarov says his UFC release request has received a positive response

After asking the UFC to let him out of his contract, which, according to Askaraov’s Instagram post on Saturday, only had one fight left on it, he “received a positive response.”

“Due to my return being delayed due to medical reasons and being my last fight under my contract, I asked UFC to release me,” Askarov wrote.
“To which, I received a positive response. First, let’s put our health in order, and then we will see what and how.”
Askarov, who is 30 years old, is currently ranked fourth in the 125-pound division by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Askarov (14–1–1 MMA, 3–1–1 UFC) was supposed to face №5 Brandon Royval two weeks ago at UFC Fight Night 212, but he pulled out on weigh-in day due to problems cutting weight.
In March of 2021, Askarov was scheduled to fight Joseph Benavidez at UFC 259. He failed to make weight. A portion of his winnings from the unanimous decision triumph were withheld since he weighed in at 127 pounds. He suffered his first defeat in March at UFC on ESPN 33, at the hands of Kai Kara-France. Kara-France earned a shot at the interim title with the victory, while Askarov was forced to regroup.
