Mohammed Usman is challenged by Waldo Cortes-Acosta

Waldo Cortes-Acosta was excited to make his MMA debut on the main card at UFC Fight Night 213, and despite not getting a finish, he was happy to do it.
Despite landing several strong blows that connected with Jared Vanderaa, the Dominican heavyweight was unable to end the fight. Cortes-Acosta (8–0 MMA, 1–0 UFC) seemed to have no answer for Vanderaa (12–10 MMA, 1–6 UFCstrong )’s leg kicks at first, but the exchange pulled out audible taunts and emotion from the defending champion.

“Yeah, I felt them, but that’s why we’re here,” Cortes-Acosta told reporters.
“It’s a war, and whatever he needs to do. If your leg is shot, whatever happens, you need to keep pounding.”
Cortes-Acosta yelled at his opponent and danced the salsa as a nod to his alias as they both worked through his opponent’s leg kicks strategy.
“It is a stage,” Cortes-Acosta said.
“A stage where you can dance, you can be yourself, express yourself, you gotta play, everybody’s looking at you. That’s what you’re going to see from me. … The more I continue to fight, that’s the Waldo you’re going to see, somebody that’s loose and happy to be here.”
Vanderaa was praised for his toughness by Cortes-Acosta, who also predicted that he would be eager to succeed both for himself and for the promotion. But he also thinks his rival undervalued how hard he worked and how much he gave up to achieve success.
When he returns, Cortes-Acosta hopes to square off against “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweight Edition” champion.
“I think he’s actually watching the fight, and I think he’s watching the interviews, and I think he knows it’s him that I want, Mohammaed Usman.”
