Blockchain Philanthropy at #PAY Symposium

We were excited to be a part of the inaugural #PAY Symposium, which focused on the future landscape of digital finance. Traveling across the globe to the US, we were all excited to connect with other digital innovators and share our passion for using blockchain for social good.

Panel — Towards a Richer Financial Landscape

We began the conference with an inquisitive but informative panel that was moderated by our president Chris Zhong. The speakers included Ariel Wolanow (Finserv Experts), Alex Nascimento (UCLA Blockchain) and Dave Berson (Berson Law Group LLP), who all brought unique perspectives to the conversation.

The panel first discussed the current issues surrounding money and then talked about the importance of blockchain technology in democratizing money globally. As blockchain can facilitate the movement of money across borders, it can help make capital more accessible and available for the unbanked.

Through this conversation, it was clear that blockchain will play an important role in how the global financial market evolves. And this was the perfect jumpstart to the next two bustling days, where we met other blockchain and financial industry experts who are also trying to change the world in their own ways.

#PAY Symposium Provided a Platform for BPF to Talk Blockchain Philanthropy

We were honored to be a philanthropic organization at such an event, as it gave us the opportunity to put the focus on blockchain’s social impact applications.

Many people stopped by our booth to express their interest in cryptocurrency, but they were surprised by the ways in which it can empower charities.

We not only talked about our donation platform, which we developed in partnership with UNICEF and WaterAid, but also the other blockchain applications we’ve explored, like tracking donations or voting. Helping others see blockchain’s potentials beyond just an avenue for digital payment was perhaps the most rewarding part of this experience.

This day was made more exciting by the fact that we just received our 501C(3) status as a charitable organization in the US! This gave us another boost as we looked to connect with other US-based charities and organizations.

One theme that never leaves blockchain is that of global connection and transacting without borders. And we are extremely grateful that #PAY offered an international platform for BPF to connect with others.

Now we are looking forward to officially launching our cryptocurrency donation platform in Melbourne and working more closely with our charity partners to build a better world through blockchain.

Highlights:

  1. Panel — discussing current trends and blockchain applications for social impact
  2. Talking about BPF’s mission to those who visited our booth
  3. Pitching at the Startup Showcase and seeing how other companies are innovating using blockchain.
