Washington, D.C. (March 4, 2021) — Bully Pulpit Interactive (BPI) announced today that Xochitl Hinojosa is joining the agency as a Managing Director in BPI’s DC office. As Director of Communications and Senior Adviser for the Democratic National Committee during the Trump Presidency, Hinojosa repaired a national brand and helped lead the efforts to take back the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House. At BPI, she will use her years of political communications to lead integrated statewide campaigns for Democrats in the 2022 cycle and beyond, craft reputational campaigns for brands and help Fortune 100 companies identify and communicate their purpose beyond selling products.

“Xochitl is a leading, diverse voice in the Democratic Party, credited with turning around the image of the DNC through strategic, sustained voter communication and leading Democrats to victories in 2018 and 2020,” said BPI Partner and former White House Director of Public Engagement Paulette Aniskoff. “We’re thrilled to have her join BPI to grow our political offerings, continue her work on progressive issues, and work with our corporate clients to restore trust in brands as our country emerges from this pandemic.”

Before the DNC, Hinojosa led public affairs for the Department Justice’s civil rights division during the Obama administration, and then served as Press Secretary and Senior Managing Director for the Department of Labor as Democrats worked to turn the economy around — throughout both positions she thoughtfully steered the Departments’ public images through crises and messaged progressive values in communities across the country.

“One of the fundamental lessons I’ve learned in restoring brands is that we can’t just talk to voters when it’s two months from an election or to consumers when you need to meet a quarterly goal, the work starts much, much earlier and needs to be sustained at a community level,” said Hinojosa. “When I was looking for my next role, I wanted to join a well-respected, talented team in the Democratic communications space — no one has a better reputation than BPI. I’m excited to be part of the agency’s growth and strengthen their political communications offerings as we head into a critical mid-term cycle.”

“Xochitl is strategic, tenacious, and a proven leader who tackles challenges head on. She helped restore the DNC’s brand during one of the most critical times in our nation’s history and was indispensable to our party’s success,” said former Labor Secretary and DNC Chair Tom Perez. “Xochitl helped message critical cases at the Department of Justice, as well as key economic priorities for the Obama administration at the Department of Labor. I’ve worked with Xochitl for over a decade and she is one of the best communicators I know. BPI is lucky to have her.”

In 2020 BPI spent over $150M on political ads for Democrats across 119 races including successful roles in the vote-by-mail digital mobilization program for Biden for America and combating disinformation about the candidates. The agency is now helping Fortune 100 companies and advocacy organizations navigate a Democratic DC. Hinojosa’s addition to our leadership strengthens BPI’s ability to consistently talk to voters about values, lead brands through moments of crisis and restore large institutions’ reputations.

Before joining the DNC, Hinojosa served in senior roles at the Department of Labor including as Press Secretary and Senior Managing Director. During the 2016 election cycle she was the Director of Coalitions Media for Hillary for America. Previously, Hinojosa led Communications for U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz and worked as a Public Affairs Specialist in the Department of Justice.
