BRAC’s Social Innovation Lab (SIL) has been recognized as one of the top six radical experiments recently at the RewirEd Summit in Dubai, UAE for its work on wellbeing in education.

Led by Dubai Cares, in partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai and in close coordination with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), and delivered in partnership with global stakeholders, RewirEd is working as a catalyst to redefine education to ensure a prosperous, sustainable and innovative future for all.

The recognition was announced on 13 December 2021 as part of the RewirEd Summit held between 12–14 December, 2021. BRAC Social Innovation Lab has been awarded seed funding USD 50,000 to further develop and roll-out experiments.

As part of this global education summit, Radicle has co-designed six “RewirEd Provocations” that are ideas to address some of the complex and structural challenges in education. One of these provocations is “wellbeing in education” in which the BRAC SIL team participated as the experiment lead.

Under the experiment process, the SIL team designed a journal book incorporating coordinated activities for mental, physical, and environmental wellbeing of children and introduced it to 100 grade-4 students of three BRAC schools. A four-week long training for the teachers’ personal wellbeing has also been integrated into the solution design, contributed by the BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BIED), which was conducted online with 30 teachers.

Students were getting instructions to learn about journaling

The objective of the experiment was to understand the scope to integrate the component of ‘wellbeing’ into teachers’ training, assessment and curriculum and create awareness on mental wellbeing and self-care among students and teachers.

With the seed grant awarded the Social Innovation Lab team will work jointly with BRAC Education Programme and BIED to design a wellbeing index to measure student level outcome.
