Welcome to Brain Byte, the new Human Brain Project (HBP) blog. It’s great that you’ve landed on our page!

Some of you may already be familiar with the HBP, a 10-year project that began in 2013, funded under the EU Future and Emerging Technologies Flagship Initiative. We are collaborating with over 100 universities and research centres to create powerful and innovative tools to help with one of the biggest scientific challenges — understanding the human brain. Six Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Platforms are at the core of the Project, focused on collecting and making available neuroscience data, brain simulation, high-performance analytics and computing, unlocking real patient data, neuromorphic computer systems inspired by how the brain works, and virtual robotics.

The blog is primarily intended to highlight the people behind the HBP, particularly some of our prominent investigators, female scientists, and researchers who have recently begun their scientific career. We will be talking to them about their research, their interests, and what makes them tick. You will also find some interesting little-known information from the field of neuroscience and some of the latest news from the HBP and science around the world.

In the next few weeks, watch out for our first stories featuring interviews with young scientists and one of the HBP’s key investigators, and notes from the Young Researchers Event held recently in Budapest. We hope you will join us to find out more about the people and events behind this ambitious project, and enjoy delving into the world of HBP.
