America loves rom-coms. They satisfy our romantic What-ifs.

What if the co-worker you have a crush on has been in love with you all along? And has been following you home every night to ensure you get home safely? Murdering anyone who comes within five feet of you? Um. Flattering, right?

What if the handsome waiter tracks you down from your dinner bill and finally ends up outside your hotel room in Venice? Holding a Murano champagne glass, dressed in a tuxedo, and offering a marriage proposal even though you can’t place him at first — because it’s been seven years since he was your waiter. And you were drunk at the time after escaping from a three-day bachelorette party. But once you realize who he is, you’re like fuck it, why not? No more bachelorette parties for you. You’re engaged.

What if, after being dumped in front of 60,000 people on a Jumbotron at an Eagles game, your boss confesses he has been waiting for you to notice him since kindergarten? You were in kindergarten with him?

And he’s been acquiring diamonds and an island to give to you the day you finally agree to have a cup of coffee with him outside of work? Which is when he’ll kidnap you and bring you to that…
