Last night was our first live “gig”, featuring the inimitable Mårten Wetterberg on the 3D Printer and Raspberry Pie, accompanied by dozen parents, children and supporting BrainiacClub band members.

The mission was to assemble, fly, crash (FUN!) and then re-print the broken parts of the drone Mårten had made using his portable 3D Printer. Well, mission accomplished. We let it come down with a big bang, and then managed to print the broken parts and reassemble it all.

During the evening, the children got to 3D print using materials made from potato starch ( yes, the drone was nicknamed the “Smashed Potato”), learn about why you would want to be hacking a Raspberry Pie, the chemistry and physics behind the magical world of drones. The children knew a lot more than the parents, that is for sure!

Mårten will be hosting the full two day course at Google Campus in a few months , last night was the test run. Thank you for all who watched on-line.

And thank you Mårten for showing us the Smashed Potato.

This is the feedback we got from the parent of our youngest Brainiac….”As we were getting in the car, he said that he’d always remember this day”
