It’s all go today, at the Wall of Grief:
the monument to the victims of political repressions.

Police officers have arrived ready to riot.
They are prepared to defend to the death,
(or at least to the grievous bodily harm)
the political repressions monument and,
it may well be an unfortunate necessity
to employ their highest training
to provide the requisite victims
in order to serve, to honour, and to earn
the monument its namesake.

Besides, look how the oppressors
arrive — kitted out in their homemade
knitwear, they are all geared up in black
woollen scarves, like thick lace draped
against their pastel puffa jackets.
What arrogant provocation to brave the snow,
armed with flowers, and tears and —
those other weapons of the desperate villain —
small white cards charged with
messages of grief.
