Recently I saw someone rebuke a fellow writer for their haiku syllable count. They were of the strict 5–7–5 school of thought. This prodded me to meddle more outside what I now see as the 17-syllable tyranny. (Yes I just started a haiku how-to course, so obviously think I know everything).
