The rise of the new social network

Take a moment to step back and just look at the world around us today — away from the noise and clutter that is the modern social network. A network that will have you believe that we live in depressingly hopeless times. But is that really the case? Despite this universal sense of dread that these social networks will have you believe, today’s possibly the best time to be alive. Knowledge is power, and many people today can access that power simply by switching on their laptops or reaching into their pockets and pulling out their smartphones.

To be fair and to give credit where it’s due, thanks to the current social media, we live in very connected times. The internet has empowered us to connect to those who have similar interests as us from across the globe. As a society, we are more connected today, than ever before.

And yet, something seems to be amiss.

The internet phenomenon, Fear Of Missing Out, (FOMO) has slowly but surely made way for JOMO, the Joy Of Missing Out. In our move towards living a life of purpose and conscious choices, digital minimalism seems to be the new trend. The time for traditional social media seems to have come and gone.

Yet, our fundamental need, as humans, to feel connected and be a part of something bigger than us, has not.

This begs the question -

What’s next for our social networks?

At brainsfeed, we’ve thought about this long and hard. And, here’s what we think.

The new social network needs to have a stronger purpose than ever before — far beyond fake news, internet bullying, propaganda machinery, GIFs and memes,

Our connections and interactions need to have more purpose and direction. The new social network needs to take our ability to connect to the next level to create connections that capitalize on our strengths and knowledge, and harness the power of the collective to share information for prosperity.

The new social network means connections that intellectually stimulate us, help us grow and evolve, and more importantly, connections that help us get great things done.

The internet has had such a democratizing influence on our collective existence and truly transformed our lives for the better. It has amplified our voices and leveled the playing field for all of us individuals to come together to make a BIG impact.

Which brings us to the second question -

How does this new social network fit in with the new work order?

Like we’d previously discussed, the remote freelance economy is here to stay. The monotony of the 9 to 5 economy simply doesn’t give us enough opportunities to engage, to collaborate, and to grow.

The conventional employment system was designed for the industrial age when stability was severely lacking. Today, humans are safer, healthier, more free, less hungry, and more literate than ever before.

But that doesn’t mean we should give up on our core abilities to adapt and thrive. Traditionally, we knew how to adapt very quickly: new places, new geography, new food.

In a fast-paced changing environment, the 21st century, we should re-evaluate our dependence on our full-time jobs and not consider them the be-all-and-end-all of our professional lives. Maybe it is time for us to go back to our roots — to reclaim our ability to deal with change

It’s time we started looking beyond our full-time jobs towards a professional lifestyle that nurtures our growth mindset and ensures we’re always learning, evolving, and progressing.

And, that, is the beauty and the power of the new social network — one that combines the power of the collective with the agility of the minimalist lifestyle of the digital nomad.

Drawing an analogy inspired by the cult classic, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, this new social network is the new social network that we need AND deserve.

brainsfeed is our attempt to build this new network for the future. With knowledge on demand, we hope to harness the power of collective intelligence to provide both individuals and companies a platform to come together to get great things done.
