With this search, it is definite that you are making up your mind for outsourcing your IT developments or at least thinking about doing so. And that decision making certainly needs to go with proper research and checklist verification.

Today I’d try to answer this question in the simplest terms possible so that it can clear out any confusion or skepticism you might have regarding finding the right offshore IT outsourcing development partner.

Just remember that outsourcing software development projects are not at all risky if you have the right partner.

There are three categories of outsourcing: In-house: Where you hire developers or resources directly to work within your company; onshore outsourcing: Where you can hire vendors in the same country and can outsource your work to them and then, offshore outsourcing: Where you hire vendors in a different country to outsource your development works.

So if you want to hire whether onshore or offshore make sure you have followed these steps blindly.

  1. Destination: pick up a location you feel most comfortable for outsourcing your projects.
  2. Research: find a list of companies in that location who have a good reputation in the market.
  3. Background check: do a proper background check of the shortlisted companies and check with their specialization & customer testimonials.
  4. Meeting: do a face to face meeting or online meeting with the companies to understand the culture & values of the company.
  5. Decision: pick the company which got the most stars on your assessments.

Here are a few more items to consider while you are doing the background check for your outsourcing partner.

  1. Check on technical & domain expertise
  2. Check on their software development methodology
  3. Check on recognition like certificates & awards
  4. Check with workday overlap & the culture
  5. Check on English speaking & writing skill
  6. Check on the hiring & training standards
  7. Check whether the company provides oversight or support
  8. Check on the retention rate & business continuity plan of the company
  9. Check with the insurance policy & organization’s sustainable business plan.

Now that you have narrowed your list to 3–5 companies. Let’s look into the points that you need to consider while doing the evaluation.

  • Consider visiting the company to see how they operate.
  • Don’t overlook the direct human connection.
  • See if the work ethic & culture matches with your company.
  • Try with small projects or POCs if needed.

Remember, it might take several months to onboard any new partner but if the partner you choose is well-aligned with your company’s style and goals. The partnership will bear sweeter fruits in the long run. And you always need to treat your IT Outsourcing vendor as a strategic partner to create a win-win situation for both of you.
