Have you ever had a sentence in your story that you were absolutely in love with, only to find out that your editor wouldn’t publish your story because of it?

I have.

Why I’m impossible to miss on Medium

I’m the chatty Indian dentist with a viral article or two, a reader who leaves thoughtful responses, highlights her favorites, and always claps 50 times for stories she loves because she loves them!

That is how you might know me.

However, I wasn’t always the mighty Mediumer you all know and (hopefully)love.

Roopa gets cut down to size

Back in 2020 and very new to Medium, I wrote a sentence in a story that got me negative feedback from my editor.

I wrote, “Little girls love Disney-themed birthday cakes.”

My editor at the time, a writer from Australia, sent me a * private note about that sentence.
