The Standard Organisation of Nigeria(SON), has cleared the air on the rumour making the rounds that fake Amstel Malta is in circulation in Nigeria, saying the low sugar formulated malt drink met all quality standard requirements.

A new video and news reports circulating on social media alleged the existence of fake and contaminated Amstel warning consumers to tread with caution.

The Deputy Director of SON, the statutory body vested with the responsibility of standardization and regulation of the quality of all products in Nigeria, Mr. Fred Akingbesote, while making clarification while speaking with journalists recently in Lagos, said that Nigerian Breweries have met all SON safety and quality requirements and complied with all requirements of the new National Industrial Standard (NIS) logo.

Akingbesote who commended the management of Nigerian Breweries for its commitment to the highest quality standard confirmed that the NIS logo on Amstel Malta is the highest mark of quality from SON.

Late last year, Nigerian Breweries brand owners of the Amstel Malta, as part of a new credential campaign, “Why Add More” introduced Amstel Malta in a new packaging that wears the new NIS logo as against its old NIS logo of the SON, prompting a social media rumour that the repackaged Amstel Malta is fake.

Commenting on the Amstel Malta Facebook Page, a consumer and Facebook user,Onyebuchi Shedrack, asked “What have you guys to say about the video on circulation regarding this product and its content?”

To which Amstel Malta responded, “We know just how you love Amstel Malta, which is why we will never change the superior quality of Amstel Malta. #NewRegulation #SamePremiumQuality #WhyAddMore”

In response to a similar concern over compromise of quality by another consumer, Ike Chike, Amstel Malta said, “No compromise has been made on the quality of Amstel Malta, we consistently stand for that superb taste and unwavering premium quality you have come to know us for. Have an amazing day ahead.”
