What Is A Personal Brand And How Can You Build It?
People often talk about wanting to improve their Personal Brand.
Everyone knows what a business brand is but you probably don’t think much about having yourself as a brand.
The idea of a Personal Brand is unusual to most people.
But in this online era, where things, both good and bad, last forever on the internet, personal branding can be considered more important than ever.
Have you ever Googled yourself?
This is what I’ve found for myself!
Yeah, it’s fun and all, but here’s a serious question.
When you Google yourself, do they show what you want the world to see?
Or do you need to filter yourself to make yourself more presentable?
This brings us to another serious question.
What is Your Personal Brand? What exactly is it?
Your brand is how you promote yourself. It is the unique combination of skills, experience, and personality that you want the world to see you.
It is the telling of your story, and how it reflects your conduct, behavior, spoken and unspoken words, and attitudes.
In one word, your brand is YOU.
And everything about YOU.
Now whether you choose to use your personal brand personally or professionally, it is important.
You can either ignore your personal brand, and let it develop organically, possibly chaotically, beyond your control, or you can help filter your personal brand to depict you as the person you want to be.
Importance of personal brand:
Now after getting to know what a personal brand is exactly we need to know why is it important.
Your personal brand can be vital to you professionally.
It is how you present yourself to current and potential clients.
It allows you to ensure that people see you in the way you want them to.
It allows you to highlight your strengths and your passions.
It helps people believe they know you better, and people have much higher trust in those they feel they know; even people they have never met personally.
Now that you’re pretty familiar with what a personal brand is, you might be considering starting this journey for yourself.
Five Tips for Developing Your Personal Brand
1. Figure out who you are.
To build a personal brand that accurately reflects your personal and professional identity, you first need to know who you are. Finding your niche and sticking to it is extremely important.
2. Determine what you want to be known for.
Your personal brand is more than a reflection of who you are today; it’s a roadmap of where you want to go. So make sure your future goals are clear, and every move has a meaning behind it.
3. Define your audience.
Before you start crafting your personal brand, you also need to determine who you’re trying to reach.
The sooner you define the audience, the easier it will be to craft your story, because you’ll better understand the type of story you need to tell.
4. Research your desired industry and follow the experts.
In building a personal brand, your goal is to stand out — but you can’t rise to the top without taking inventory of who’s already there. So don’t shy away from asking for help, we all need it.
5. Embrace networking.
The more connections you make and the more value you can provide in your interactions, the more likely it is that your personal brand will be recognized.
6. Be consistent
Lastly, building a personal brand is in no way an overnight success. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. So being demotivated is common. However, consistency will do wonders for you.
