Branding America: Oil and the Cost of War
If the recent Middle Eastern war cost is $6 Trillion dollars, what is the meaningful translation in the North American energy profile? The cost of our Middle Eastern war is about $42 per barrel? This is not a lifting cost. It is similar to protection costs, rather than production cost. This calculation is based upon the Middle Eastern production of about 28,000,000 barrels per day for the 14 year war time and an approximate cost of $6 trillion dollars.
Interestingly, America has not sought repayment for this money. This concept of huge expenses without any commodity delivery seems absurd. The Middle Eastern war price tag equates to an extremely high lifting price for oil. How does this cost fit into the USA energy platform? Is a more affordable option to purchase 10 to 30-year call options on crude oil from Saudi Arabia and Iraq or invest in new Middle Eastern oil and gas stock offerings?
War and its path are important long-term decisions. This outweighs America’s desperate need to secure Middle Eastern oil imports. It is difficult to imagine how decisions are made with unknown price tags. Politics and relationships may push decisions longer and further than would appear wise. Important war issues include drivers which are not disclosed in public, such as oil theft, currency manipulation, nuclear energy issues, former promises made in writing, kidnappings, murders, acts approaching war, or other missing information. The Syrian war is larger than understood. This area has many participants and the explosions are not limited to Syria. Turkey is a victim of this conflict.
This is the big picture: energy independence and a cohesive North American relationship with Mexico and Canada. Each country working together in harmony to assess exports and imports balances within North America. Creating and executing projects which build long-term stability and peace. This idea requires energy infrastructure and pipeline projects which widen support for Marcellus shale and Canadian Tar Sand Oil reserves. This will stave off additional Chinese investments in Canada and slow additional Chinese Canadian energy acquisitions.
Protecting the future with sound decisions is a simple concept. It may be politically charged and require a reduction of military spending. Decisions which support energy independence and widen the availability of renewable energy are needed. This accelerates renewable energy into public buildings, public housing, universities, schools, hospitals, military bases, and nonprofit buildings.
A gesture of American goodwill might include exporting the latest and greatest renewable solar energy technology to the Middle East for use on their soil. Franchise fees and licensing fees could be waived for nine to twelve years to foster a better working relationship.
This is a one-time decision to buck trends and make wide-sweeping decisions which may seem reckless in the face of low-cost energy prices. Current low energy prices do not reflect infrastructure prices or the high cost of war. More renewable energy equates to peace. The price tag for peace includes a significantly lower carbon footprint and distributed renewable energy around the USA. The price tag for war is higher. An immediate expansion of wind and solar energy is a must for North America.
