Branding Tip #102

don’t ask for votes on designs you hate

When you have a graphic design, logo, book cover or layout and you’re ready to get feedback — don’t include any choices you hate in the lineup.

Make sure you’d be happy with ANY of your options being voted “top choice”. Don’t ask for votes on a design you hate. Unless of course, you have the guts to ignore the voting voices and do whatever you want. But if that were the case, you probably wouldn’t be asking for their vote in the first place.

(Side note, this is a good rule of thumb for working with clients too… If you hate an option — do not present it as an option for your client to choose — it’s guaranteed to be the one they pick.)
