A Challenge to All Artists

Your Head Is A Houseboat, A Chaotic Guide to Mental Clarity from Struthless; Campbell Walker.

Countless articles tell you how to improve your time management skills, or prioritization in order to create as much as possible for as little as possible.

Have you ever taken part in a challenge to open yourself up creatively outward, inward and within a community?

I found one, I will take part in it and here is how you can join!

Why?

It is a quest for creativity. It is a quest to intentionally grow.

Outwardly, you have the aim to create a cohesive body of creative work, for both you and the world.

Inwardly, you will push yourself, and your mental limits and reach your potential.

Together, *we* create a space of creativity where we no longer create for the sake of creating, but actually, in Struthless’ words, for “spiritual fulfilment”.

How mindblowing is that?

Who is Struthless?

Struthless is an artist of colours, Campbell Walker — of words.

It is the same person, yes.

I “met” Struthless first, through his art. Campbell showed up a little after that.

Struthless’ vivid illustrations caught my eye several years ago, but it was his book Your Head Is A Houseboat that confirmed his spot in my “Top 3 Favourite Artists Ever!”. His art makes me think and giggle like a schoolgirl, his book blew my mind and made me clean.

Clean my mental clutter.

Oh, and you can both clean your head (boat) and drool over his work through the book — it is an illustration-fueled book that I have been gifting to friends since it came out!

What?

His current project, and your next thing on the agenda, is ALPHABET SUPERSET.

If you did not sign up so far,

Alphabet Superset is a deceptively simple blueprint, designed to set your creativity on fire.

Basically, a community of artists — writers, illustrators, painters, creators, me and hopefully you — make something for 26 weeks around 26 topics of choice. It is an A-to-Z guide. Literally!

A-to-Z alphabet speaking.

A-to-Z creation-wise — we (1) set our scope, we join a weekly (2) letter quest, and each one of us (3) betters the quest through our own individual touch.

When?

Now is the time.

Now we set the scope, we eliminate the little annoying decisions that are as annoying as bumps on the road. Bumps on our creative road.

There are 3 main reasons why we’re doing this:

1. It eliminates 6 months of tiny decisions that would otherwise exhaust us.

2. It creates cohesion between each piece, so our efforts add to something greater than their parts.

3. By putting our motivation for making stuff into words, our spark becomes much easier to find and feel again when we inevitably lose it.

Make decisions now, create later.

In a nutshell, I just began the first two-week phase: Setting My Scope.

After you’ve selected the medium, aesthetics, the unit of artwork, and all these little nagging details, your next best friend is the Letter Quest — the creation process.

You then befriend a 30-week Guided Growth.

You are not merely writing because a platform says so, you are writing because you want to! The creator of Your Head Is A Houseboat will not create a quest that makes your head a cluttered houseboat with freeloaders, grumpy sock puppets, and a wacky windshield! This section is for cleaning our creative houseboat, it is a care package for the creative mind!

Where?

Dive in, creator.

Go from the river to the ocean at: https://www.alphabetsuperset.com/.

Until the next care package,

K
