How satisfied are you with your strategy?

Is it working as expected?

Leaders work with me because they are not happy with their strategy.

Very often, they will say, “It’s not working.”

That statement is obviously too generic.

So, we dive deeper and look into the following elements, describing each and discussing “What’s working well” and “What could be better.”

It’s an evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, but more systematic, looking at multiple dimensions (all too often, the first focus is financials only).

  • Purpose/Vision/Ambition: How clear, how ambitious, beyond financials only,…
  • Customers: Who are they, satisfaction, market share
  • Brand + Identity: Image, what people say about your company,…
  • Channels: Customer experience, access
  • Offering: Products, services, quality, innovation pipeline,…
  • Ecosystem: Feedback from distributors, suppliers, partners,…
  • Revenue Model: Revenue streams, pricing mechanisms, payment mechanisms
  • Financials: Revenues, cost structure, profits, cash flow, growth rates, value creation…if necessary by BU, product group and individual products, customer segments and individual customers, geographies,…)

Call to Action:

Do the exercise above. What’s the strategic health of your organization? Ask other people on your team to do the same. Compare results. What are the 1–3 most pressing challenges you need to focus on?
