Kaleidoscope Whisky Bar at SMWS Queen Street
This summer, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s flagship venue at 28 Queen Street had a complete refurbishment.
The members room and restaurant were each moved up a floor, leaving ground floor free to host a new whisky bar; Kaleidoscope.
Queen Street has been open to non-members for over a year, but having a proper public bar is a vast improvement on the previous arrangement.
The bar stocks the full range of SMWS bottlings, but the biggest difference is that other whiskies are also for sale on the bar.
The SMWS engaged Charles McLean to curate a guest whisky list for the bar which includes around 30 old and rare bottles.
This list includes several from Charles’ own collection, and includes modern classics such as the 16yo Mortlach Flora & Fauna, as well as a 1960’s Dufftown-Glenlivet 12 year old and the infamous Loch Dhu “The Black Whisky”.
Once they’re finished, it’s unlikely they’ll be replaced hence a great excuse to visit Kaleidoscope sooner rather than later.
