Industry news

Bold ambitions as Suntory announce a halt in acquisitions, increased sales and set sights on becoming the world’s largest whiskey maker.

Room for growth. Research reveals expected increase in non-Scotch whisky sales over next four years.

Hand crafted by machine? Jim Beam faces lawsuit for false advertising after ‘handcrafted’ claims.

Inver House expansion. The Speyburn distiller has secured a £10m financing package to enable increased production and a warehouse expansion.

Taxing problems. The quality of Indian whisky is being held back due to the taxation structure in the country.

New year; old news. It’s unlikely China’s Scotch sector will recover in the short term, however long-term prospects are encouraging.

Still game. The Isle of Harris distillery celebrates the installation of new stills with a visit from the local MSP.

But does it taste good? Glenmorangie Pride 1978 wins ‘Best Whisky Den’ at the Wallpaper* magazine design awards.

New releases

Tin or aluminium? BenRiach releases 10th Anniversary bottling to commemorate Billy Walker’s purchase of the distillery.

Small Batch Bourbon. Booker’s Bourbon releases new limited-edition collection to celebrate founding distiller Booker Noe’s legacy.

Porsche or whisky? Costing around £72,000, the Dalmore Constellation Collection — The 60s Set is launched in Canada.

When Old Rare isn’t rare enough. Diageo launches Mortlach Special Strength for Travel Retail.

Miscellany

Diageo gets Googled. Talisker, Cardhu, Glen Ord and Lagavulin get the Google Business View treatment, allowing the inside to be ‘toured’ from the web.

Bad news for Macallan collectors? Despite record amounts of whisky being sold in secondary markets; The Macallan values have dropped significantly in the last year.
