In this report, it states that in 2017, there were at least 28 deaths of transgender people due to fatal violence in the United States- the most ever recorded. This prejudice that some people have against transgender people is one that can be incredibly dangerous, as this statistic proves. In our reading “Night To This Day” by Lorber, the issue of gender is brought up. The idea that “everyone ‘does gender’ without thinking about it” (Lorber, J. 2013) feeds in to this hatred that some people have towards transgender people. They fear them being different, and they have a prejudice towards them that they then turn violent because of. Transgender people being attacked and being victims of hate crimes is nothing new, but this statistic of 28 deaths is absolutely horrifying to think about. This prejudice against transgender people also bleeds into issues regarding their basic human rights, such as health care.
