Due to a bit of holiday, we missed out last week. But here is are some news from around the world of media, technology and advertising. Enjoy.

Here we go.

Alibaba’s Alipay is being trialled with facial recognition at KFC in China. The trial allows customers at KFC to pay with a smile.

Facebook is starting to roll out some re-designs. Some better than others.

Firstly, the blue header is being removed and the platform becomes a bit cleaner. Facebook are also following other platforms, and is adding circular profile pictures.

Secondly, Facebook are introducing colored comments. So just as you can change the background color of your text-posts, you can now also do it in the comments. And it looks like a giant design failure.

Instagram are rolling out their popular stories function, and are going to allow users to post stories directly from the web.

The on-demand geofilters on Snapchat are currently being rolled out in Scandinavia. Not for businesses yet, but there might be workarounds.

Facebook started the video platform, and are going to produce original content. The quality of the first batch can be discussed.

And lastly, IBM used Watson to create cognitive highlights from the US Open in tennis.

Enjoy your weekend!
