Throughout history, grassroots movements and activism have stood out as influential forces driving social transformation. These movements, led by everyday people joining forces to champion a shared goal, hold the potential to make a significant impact on society. Exploring the significance of activism, the tactics, and the obstacles involved in grassroots movements can provide valuable insights into mobilizing social change.

Understanding Grassroots Movements

Grassroots movements operate with a bottom-up approach where power emanates from individuals rather than top-down structures. The bottom-up approach always made more sense to me. Like Kamala Harris’s “stroller view” of protests, peaceful civil disobedience, and her parents’ activism, I draw inspiration from my mother’s innate ability to challenge and question the status quo while arguing for inclusivity. Her Caribbean and New York protests gave him an up-close perspective on fostering solid self-esteem to embolden an inner strength to see the world as it should be instead of accepting what it is.
